An Effective Cover Letter
Your
resume should always be accompanied by a proper Cover Letter. Failing to do so,
places you at a disadvantage from the outset. Your resume stands a better
chance of being read, if it has an attractive cover letter.
Here is an opportunity for you to personalizing your skills and experience to
the situation at hand. Show your prospective employer that you have what they are
looking for, that you will make a positive contribution to their organization and
impact their bottom line.
Keep it to
Four Short Paragraphs:
- Tell why you are
writing and the position you are applying for. Mention how you heard of the
opening in the organization. Get the reader's attention!
- Explain how you have what they are looking for. Delineate your
qualifications, skills and abilities. Explain why you are interested in
working for them (research the organization).
- In the third paragraph, show what else you will be able to do for
their organization. Here is where you can showcase your transferable skills,
your attitude and interests.
- In closing, ask for an interview and re-emphasize that hiring you
will be a good business decision.
